Buffalo Chip: Bieber not performing here (or is he?)
Apparently, there would be nothing worse for the adult-oriented image of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally’s Buffalo Chip Campground than a performance by a child star.
Today, the Chip took the unusual step of issuing a press release to dispel rumors that Justin Bieber will perform there.
But then, at the bottom of the release, there’s an "April fools." What does that mean? I guess it means the whole thing is a joke. Or does it?
Here’s the release:
BUFFALO CHIP CAMPGROUND, SD – Discovered in 2008, Justin Bieber’s YouTube videos have sent him skyrocketing into the Billboard Hot 100 stratosphere. And his hit "Baby" is one of the most popular songs of 2010.
Still, at just 17 years of age, Bieber and his music may still be too young for the bikers who enjoy the music at the Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground. Rumors surrounding a possible appearance by Bieber may have been fueled by a photo of Bieber appearing in the Buffalo Chip’s Guess The Band contest, which hides clues about celebrities in a photo of a Buffalo Chip crowd. Contest winners are chosen from those who correctly find clues to unannounced stars who have been booked to play at the Chip. The photo can be seen at buffalochip.com under "contests" in the "events" section. The photo contains clues or band images of Alice Cooper, George Thorogood, Def Leppard, Leon Russell, STYX, Pop Evil and Bachman & Turner, each of which will be playing at the Chip’s 2011 party during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
"As enticing as it may seem to have an artist who just last year participated in the White House Easter Egg Roll, the consensus among our marketing team was that the young superstar’s music may not be a good fit for the Buffalo Chip just yet. While we are always looking to reach new demographics, we’re not at this time targeting those who are still in junior high. April fools," said Buffalo Chip publicist Michael Sanborn.
More information on the events and music that actually will be playing at the Legendary Buffalo Chip is available at BuffaloChip.com. Reservations can be made there or by calling 605-347-9000 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (mountain).
