South Dakota archaeologist and site featured on new PBS series
PBS’ new series "Time Team America" debuts at 7 p.m. tonight. The show "sends archaeologists on a race against time to excavate historic sites around the nation. The team has 72 hours to uncover the buried secrets of their assigned digs using the latest technology, decades of expertise and their own sharp wits."
One of the series’ team members is Adrien Hannus, professor of anthropology and director of the archeology laboratory at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Tonight’s episode was shot at Fort Raleigh, N.C. The last episode in the series’ debut season will air Aug. 12 and will feature Fort James, an abandoned 1860s military post near Mitchell, S.D. Hannus probably played a role in bringing the show to South Dakota, as he not only works in Sioux Falls but also has been instrumental in the development of the Mitchell Prehistoric Indian Village.
