South Dakota Symphony Celebrating the Year of the Piano

With opening night set for October 3rd, the South Dakota Symphony is preparing to embark on the year of the piano.  As the Symphony’s website describes it, "Few instruments are as celebrated as the piano."  With a series of 20 concert events scheduled, the South Dakota Symphony is poised to present an outstanding array of music for South Dakota patrons.

To highlight the Year of the Piano, the Symphony is currently holding a contest called "Find the Pianos."  Nine pianos, designed by local artists, have been hidden around the city of Sioux Falls.  A prize of free symphony tickets is being offered to someone who finds the pianos, takes a photo with each one, and uploads the photos to the Symphony’s Facebook page. 

Starting off on a high note, Adam Golka will open the Symphony’s season with Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3.  Halloween night will be shrouded in the backdrop of Angelina Gadeliya’s performance titled "Stage Fright: A Scary Music Night."  Patrons, both children and adults, are encouraged to come dressed up in their favorite costumes.  The celebration of the piano will continue throughout the year with artists like Zarina Stepanova, Emanuele Arciuli, Alessio Bax, and Paul Sanchez.  Jeans N’ Classics, the best of Billy Joel is a lighthearted take on piano music, scheduled for late April.

In addition to their regular performances in Sioux Falls, the South Dakota symphony also has touring ensembles that bring the Symphony experience to schools and communities throughout South Dakota.  There is also a youth orchestra program, a perfect place for young musicians to hone their musical talent.
